TORSION SUSPENSION
Torsion suspension on a horse cart offers several benefits, enhancing the cart's performance, comfort, and durability. Here's a breakdown of its advantages:
1. Improved Ride Comfort
- Shock Absorption: Torsion suspension provides better shock absorption compared to rigid axle setups, reducing vibrations and jolts from uneven terrain.
- Less Jarring for the Horse: The reduced vibration and smoother ride help lessen the physical strain on the horse, improving its endurance and comfort.
- Passenger Comfort: The suspension cushions the ride for passengers, making it more pleasant, especially over rough terrain.
2. Reduced Maintenance
- Durable Design: Torsion axles are enclosed systems with fewer moving parts, which minimizes wear and tear compared to traditional spring-based suspensions.
3. Enhanced Stability
- Independent Wheel Movement: Each wheel in a torsion suspension system moves independently. This minimizes lateral movement and improves stability, especially on uneven ground.
- Lower Center of Gravity: The design often results in a lower center of gravity, reducing the risk of tipping over.
4. Quiet Operation
- Minimal Noise: With fewer metal-to-metal components, torsion suspensions operate quietly, making for a more peaceful ride for both passengers and the horse.
5. Better Traction
- Consistent Contact with Ground: The suspension ensures better contact between the wheels and the ground, improving traction and control, especially on slippery or uneven surfaces.
7. Aesthetics
- Streamlined Appearance: The compact design of torsion suspension systems can contribute to a sleeker, more modern look for the cart.
Overall, torsion suspension is an excellent choice for horse carts, particularly those used on varied terrains or for extended periods. It ensures a smoother experience for both the horse and passengers while reducing maintenance costs and improving safety.
SPRING SUSPENSION
Spring suspension on a horse cart offers several benefits that improve comfort, performance, and durability. Here’s an overview:
1. Enhanced Comfort
- Reduced Shocks and Vibrations: Springs absorb shocks from uneven terrain, minimizing the jolts transferred to passengers and the horse.
- Smoother Ride: The suspension system helps maintain stability and reduces the discomfort caused by bumps, making long journeys more tolerable for both the rider and the animal.
2. Improved Safety
- Better Control: By absorbing impacts, spring suspension improves the cart's stability, reducing the risk of tipping over on rough or sloped terrain.
- Reduced Horse Fatigue: Less vibration means the horse experiences less strain, leading to improved stamina and lower risk of injury during travel.
3. Increased Durability
- Protects the Cart: Springs act as a buffer, reducing stress on the cart's frame and wheels, prolonging their lifespan.
- Lower Maintenance: By mitigating the impact forces, components like the axle and wheels experience less wear and tear.
4. Better Traction and Performance
- Consistent Ground Contact: Suspension helps keep the wheels in better contact with the ground, improving handling and reducing the risk of getting stuck in uneven or soft terrain.
In essence, spring suspension adds practicality and comfort to horse carts, making them more efficient and pleasurable to use.
COIL SEAT SPRING
The simplest and lightest. Good comfort for light or medium loads on relatively smooth terrain.
WHEELS
WOOD SPOKED WHEELS WITH RUBBER
Solid rubber tires on wood-spoked wheels offer several advantages, particularly in specific historical, industrial, or low-speed applications. Here are the key benefits:
1. Durability
- Resistant to Punctures: Solid rubber tires are not susceptible to punctures or blowouts, making them ideal for rough terrain or industrial settings where sharp objects might be encountered.
- Long Lifespan: Solid rubber does not wear out as quickly as air-filled tires, especially when used under heavy loads or in demanding conditions.
2. Low Maintenance
- Unlike pneumatic tires, which require regular air pressure checks and potential patching or replacement, solid rubber tires are virtually maintenance-free once installed.
7. Noise and Vibration Dampening
- Compared to metal-rimmed wheels, solid rubber tires significantly reduce noise and absorb some vibrations, offering a smoother ride for wooden spoked vehicles.
8. Traction
- Solid rubber provides better grip compared to bare wooden or metal wheels, improving traction on various surfaces.
While these tires excel in durability and simplicity, they lack the flexibility and shock-absorbing capabilities of modern pneumatic tires, making them less suitable for high-speed or comfort-oriented applications.
WOOD SPOKED WHEELS WITH STEEL TIRES
These wheels provide a traditional look, with lots of strength. The steel is noisy on gravel and hard surfaces, but good on dirt and grass.
WOOD SPOKED WHEELS WITH RUBBER TIRE
This is a traditional wood spoked wheel with a solid rubber tire. Strong and quiet with a good look.
STEEL SPOKED WHEEL WITH RUBBER TIRE
This wheel has metal welded spokes looks like a traditional wheel with a solid rubber tire. Strong, quiet and maintenance free.
SPOKED WHEEL
Basically a bicycle wheel with wire spokes. They are light weight and economical, perfect for light loads. The require more cleaning to keep their looks.
HEAVY DUTY SPOKED WHEEL
A very strong bicycle wheels with 14 gauge steel, 32 heavy spokes, welded and powder coated for a low maintenance finish.
HEAVY DUTY STAINLESS STEEL WHEEL
A very strong bicycle wheel with 14 gauge steel, 32 spokes all in polished stainless steel for a good luck and no maintenance.
AIR TIRES
These are essentially bicycle tires, They provide a smooth ride but are prone to flats.
FLAT FREE TIRES
These are the bicycle tires with a solid rubber insert to eliminate the problem with flat tires.
UPGRADES:
EZ GLIDE SEAT ADJUSTER
Allow you to change the position of the seat with just the pull of a handle, no wrenches necessary. Moving the seat forward and back changes the ‘balance’ of the cart, putting more or less weight on the horse.
BASKET
Carry items with you without having to worry they will fall off or out. Always have a place for clothing, purse, snack, or a drink.
DASH GUARD
Add pizzaz to your cart and provide a bit more safety from falling into the horse.
FENDERS
Control the amount of water and dust thrown into the air from the tires. Sold in pairs.
MUDFLAPS
A rubber curtain that keeps road dirt and water from getting onto the passengers.
STEPS
Makes it easier to get into the Cobb and Horse size carts. Sold in pairs.
LED LIGHT BAR
Bolts to the back of the seat and provides bright LED lights forward and back for safety. Includes a gel battery, battery holder and switch.
